To Take, Retake or Not to Take at all....

We got our school photos back... Oh, Joy. To say I didn't like them... Is... an UNDERSTATEMENT. I seem to recall a VERY WELL WRITTEN post about this issue. (Believe me, this is a hilarious post. Click on the link!) This is what I said in response.

"Yep, I just buy them because I feel completely obligated to provide the school picture. I mean, I don't want my child at 30 to say... Mom, why don't you have any of my school pictures??? Not gonna happen, not here.. we will take those ugly pix and like it. BTW, you are a fabulous photog."

Talk about a self fulfilling prophesy! Now, the question is... Do I keep 'em and say, SORRY YOU GUYS WERE JUST UGLY BACK THEN! Or do I give re-takes a go and blow some more cash out the window?

I think I will do OPTION "A". It is only fair.. .I can't have my children thinking they were cute ALL The time!
So we went from SO CUTE ABBY Last Year. To THIS YEAR....

Crouched over, straggly haired (we had recess before pictures!) classic second grade photo.

Here is Jaxon last year and THIS YEAR.

Crazy google eyed under bite kid... (I guess I DID compare him to Michael Phelps once.. But, I didn't mean it literally!)

I guess I can just show them this and this when they burst into tears over their horrible photos.

I SO agree with you...I hate the school pic especially the generic ugly background! But I think Abby looks adorable...and Jaxson...he's so stinkin cute! So save the money and let her decide what she thinks of the pic in 10 years! =)

School pictures are NEVER good. Don't worry. My daughter had a really weird one last year. I asked her in my most polite roundabout way if she wanted retakes and she said no. I left it at that.

Honestly, I think they are really cute.

My 3rd grade school picture is frightening. Right before they took the pictures, for some ODD reason I changed my part from the middle to the side for the first time in my life...it didn't look pretty.

oh. oh. oh. Those kids are gorgeous, adorable children and neither of these pictures do them justice. Light is way tooo hot! If they had olive skin, brown eyes and were sitting at a 20 degree angle to the camera, we'd have something to look at that would make us gasp. In a good way! Buy the dumb pictures and give them away like crazy. And then keep taking those really good pictures you take and post them. That Jaxon melts my heart with that smile.

Hoping for a good update on the camera situation very soon.

this is something I decided early on I would NEVER do. I thought I'd escaped it entirely by homeschooling. Then the local homeschool group I go to brought in Lifetouch Photagraphy! What the crap?!?!?! Why would anyone choose to have those done who didn't have to?!?!? Not me. Walmart can take just as crappy of a picture for $5 for more than you could EVER use. Try that if you are in the market.

Oh, sister. I just ordered ours. They let the kids choose the color of their background, and when Hannah wanted purple? Sure thing, baby. I gave it to her. Because I know that they will go in a file drawer somewhere, only to be pulled out when my kids are old and married, to say, see? Look how funny you looked in fourth grade.

Plus, it'll give them something good to blog about and mock themselves in years to come.

From the girl whose mother never purchased school pictures post first grade -save your cash!

Unless you like to have future blackmail for the up-coming teenage years. hahaha!

gotta keep 'em, it's a rite of passage - and even in "bad" pics, your kids are still pretty darn cute!

I had a period growing up where I had a face only a mother could love. My mom had me get retakes...that made me feel ugly.

Your kids are cute.
